2026 Formula 1 Constructors' Championship Preview

McLaren ended their long wait for a constructors' title in 2024, having last won it in 1998 under Häkkinen & Coulthard, and then, like buses, picked up back-to-back titles, winning it in 2025 also.

We have some changes to the constructors for 2026, with Audi coming in to replace Sauber, who have left the sport, and Audi will be using their own power unit.

2016 was the last time we had eleven teams and twenty-two cars on the grid, and that is back for 2026, with Cadillac joining the grid, which will be using a Ferrari power unit.

Honda are no longer supplying power units to Red Bull and will instead supply them to Aston Martin for 2026, a team that will now be led by Adrian Newey for this season.

Both the Red Bull teams will now use Red Bull Ford power units, the first time Ford has been part of F1 since 2004, whilst Alpine will now be using Mercedes power units, with Renault pulling the plug.

Regulation Changes

For the new F1 season, one major change is the removal of DRS, replaced by active aerodynamics with two settings: Z-mode, the standard high-downforce configuration used for cornering, and X-mode, a low-drag setting the wings drop into on the straights for more top speed. In place of DRS as an overtaking aid, a new manual override mode gives a chasing driver within one second of the car ahead an extra burst of electrical energy down the straight.

The power units are moving more towards electrical energy, with close to a 50-50 split this season between the internal combustion engine and the electrical side. We will also lose the MGU-H, which recovered heat energy, with the MGU-K, which recovers kinetic energy under braking, being used far more.

The cars are being reduced in size and made lighter, with the aim of allowing them to follow one another much more easily. Whether or not that will be the case is another thing!

2026 F1 Calendar & Winners

Here is the schedule for the 2026 season, which was due to have the full twenty-four rounds, with the Chinese, Miami, Canadian, British, Dutch, and Singapore weekends all set to host sprint races.

*Both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix were cancelled; however, the Bahrain Grand Prix was later rescheduled for round 17 (2nd October), moving to the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

2026 Constructor Standings

It looks like a cracking season ahead, with plenty of movement expected at the top as the new regulations shake up the order. Will one team break clear, or can Adrian Newey have an immediate effect at Aston Martin as Team Principal?

Here are the latest constructor standings (figures include sprint races):

2025 Constructors Recap

McLaren headed into 2025 looking to defend their title, and with the way Lando and Oscar started the season, the writing was on the wall very early!

For F1 betting tips throughout the season, be sure to head over to the main dedicated F1 Predictions page to see who the OLBG tipsters are backing to win.

Lando and Oscar went on to win five of the opening six races, and after those six races had already opened up a lead of over one hundred points over Mercedes in second spot.

After a poor race in Canada, the team bounced back with five straight wins, and after fifteen rounds, they led the championship by 324 points with Ferrari now in second spot.

It was good that they had built up such a strong lead because after the Dutch Grand Prix, they only managed to pick up two wins in nine races, but they were still scoring well despite not winning.

It was in Singapore, round 18, that they confirmed the successful defence of their title with six rounds to spare. They led from the first race to the last, never giving up first place and landing their 10th constructors' title by 364 points over Mercedes.
