Greyhound Oaks 2026: First round results

Greyhound Oaks 2026: Ante-post preview

Greyhound Oaks Preview: Newinn Uganda Sets the Standard

Dunstall Park has done a fantastic job of assembling a field of seventy-two bitches for their second renewal of the Greyhound Oaks.

A host of top-class performers line-up in Saturday’s 12 first-round heats, including Coronation Cup winner Bikini Bullet, East Anglian Derby winner Aayamza Shazza and Produce Stakes winner Countess Penny.

The bookmakers have found it difficult to separate the leading contenders, with nine bitches priced at less than 20/1 in the ante-post market, highlighting the competitiveness of this year’s renewal.

Double English Derby-winning trainer Graham Holland brings four runners over from Ireland, including two of the joint-favourites. Ballydoyle Tina heads the market at 6/1, as Holland looks to add the Greyhound Oaks to his impressive list of major victories. It is one of the few prestigious competitions still missing from his CV.

Ballydoyle Tina was well-fancied for the Irish Derby but exited in the third round after being crowded at the first bend. She had previously reached the semi-finals of the Christmas Oaks at Shelbourne Park last December, suggesting she could appreciate the return to racing against her own sex.

Sharing favouritism at 6/1 is Holland’s other leading contender, Newinn Uganda, who recorded the fastest time at Dunstall Park in 2026 when landing the first trial stakes for the Oaks in 27.90 last Saturday evening. The Irish trainer’s team is completed by Bombay Special (18/1 ante-post) and Fahrenheit Jess (10/1).

Third in the ante-post market is the aforementioned Bikini Bullet, who is available at a best price of 8/1. The main question surrounding Belinda Green’s two-year-old is whether she can translate her outstanding Coronation Cup form over 575 metres at Romford to the sharper 480 metre trip at Dunstall Park.

Bikini Bullet’s supporters will point to her previous success over 480 metres at Monmore in a puppy competition earlier this year. Although she has not raced since her Coronation Cup triumph in July, she has enjoyed a series of trials at Hove and clocked an encouraging 28.27 at Dunstall Park. She encountered trouble in that three-dog trial, however, and there remains a question as to whether she will be able to come from behind over this shorter distance.

Bikini Bullet faces a stern test in Heat Two, where she takes on the exceptionally quick trapper Slingshot Poppy, a 10/1 ante-post chance. The heat also features two other Grade One finalists, Singalong Cherry (20/1) and Signet Nayla (25/1), making it one of the standout contests of the opening round.

John Mullins’ Aayamza Shazza overcame plenty of trouble in her qualifying races before powering to victory in the East Anglian Derby over 462 metres. She appears to have the all-round pace to qualify, even if she encounters trouble during her heats.

The shock winner of the £10,000 Produce Stakes at Towcester, Countess Penny, lines up in Heat Three after finishing third on her first attempt over the 462-metre trip last Saturday. She encountered plenty of trouble in that race and will be hoping for a clearer passage this time around.

Newinn Uganda’s impressive trial-stakes victory last weekend makes her an interesting contender at 6/1. If she can reproduce that 27.90 performance in the competition itself, she could give Graham Holland his first Greyhound Oaks title.

Ante-post prices correct as of 4pm Friday 2nd October.

Greyhound Oaks 2025: Result

Butlers Lane, trained by Barry Denby at Nottingham, maintained her unbeaten record in the Oaks leading from the second bend for a decisive one and three-quarter length victory.

Amazingly, despite her perfect record at Dunstall Park, the three-year-old bitch was sent off the 7/2 third-favourite and with having won her previous three races at 7/1, 7/1 and 7/4 her supporters have likely had a very profitable competition.

Greyhound Oaks: Final 2024

The Oaks has been dominated up to this point by some amazing performances from Druids Say Go who has recorded three consecutive victories in the opening rounds.

Patrick Janssens' September 2021 bitch has broken 27.90 on all three occasions and has won both of the last two rounds by over five lengths. Druids Say Go's fastest time in this competition was 27.80 in the quarter-finals but even her worst time of 27.89 is still over a tenth of a second quicker than her fastest rival in the final (Icemans Girl at 28.00). Understandably, the bookmakers are giving nothing away on putting Druids Say Go in at a current best price of 4/9 to win the final. It looks like it should be plain sailing for the favourite but Icemans Girl is capable of a very fast start (she has recorded a 3.39 best sectional compared to Druids 3.42) and Icemans Girl does possess a powerful finish. The other four dogs have a lot to find on times but I think Icemans Girl offers a bit of value against the favourite.

The other fly in the ointment for the favourite could be Chamberlain Kate in Trap 1 who has a tendency to move off and could potentially crowd the favourite if she makes a fast start. That isn't certain by any means but the threat of trouble from Trap 1 and the fact that Icemans Girl in Trap 3 likes to move to the rails could see Druids Say Go as the meat in the sandwich.

Druids Say Go is by far the most likely winner but probably not a 4/9 shot so it is worth a small bet on Icemans Girl at 7/2.

Greyhound Oaks Final: Saturday 26th October 9.20pm. Full field below with details of fastest sectionals and fastest times in this competition.

  1. Chamberlain Kate (3.51) 28.31
  2. Druids Say Go (3.42) 27.80

The Greyhound Oaks 2024: Preview

The Oaks is one of the oldest greyhound competitions still in existence with the original running taking place in 1927.

The first round is on Saturday 5th October with eight first round heats.

The ante-post favourite for the 2024 Oaks is Queen Joni, trained by Liz McNair, who has trained the winner of this event on two previous occasions. Queen Joni was one of the favourites for the Derby but crashed out in the first round after finding trouble in running. Since then she has recorded five straight wins (four at Towcester over 500m and most recently a win over the sprint trip of 285m at Hove).

Challenging Queen Joni for ante-post favouritism is the Derek Janssens trained, Druids Say Go. This September 2021 bitch has won ten of her last eleven races, including an emphatic five-length victory in the recent 15k East Anglian Derby final, where she recorded a very fast time. Usually a railer, Druids Say Go has drawn Trap 4 in the first round and that may be a potential banana skin. Janssens won this competition in 2022 with Slick Sakina and has three representatives this year but undoubtedly Druids Say Go looks his best chance.

Doncaster based breeder/trainer Phil Milner will be hoping Druids Say Go does struggle from her Trap 4 berth as his charge Avongate Venus is in the same heat as that well-fancied bitch. Avongate Venus goes from trap five and she too has been a model of recent consistency winning eleven of the twelve races she has run for Milner since moving over from Ireland in May of this year. Avongate Venus and Druids Say Go both trialled over the Oaks course and distance on the 26th September with Druids Say Go recording the faster trial time of 28.14 with Avongate Venus returning 28.37.
