Super League 2027 Preview
Who won the 2026 Super League?
Wakefield Trinity are the 2026 Super League champions, beating Warrington Wolves 23-10 in the Grand Final at Old Trafford on 3 October 2026. It was the club's first Super League title and their first league championship since 1968.
Trinity finished the regular season in fourth place and became the first team to win the title from fourth, having beaten Wigan Warriors 33-6 in the semi-final. They are the sixth different club to win Super League, joining Wigan, St Helens, Leeds, Bradford and Hull KR.
It is a rapid turnaround for a club that was relegated in 2023 and only returned to the top flight in 2025.
Wigan won the League Leaders' Shield, finishing top with 22 wins from 27 games (44 points), four points clear of second-placed Leeds Rhinos and third-placed Warrington Wolves (both on 40 points), but they were beaten in the semi-finals.
The Rob Burrow Award, given to the player of the match, went to Tom Johnstone, who scored a try for Wakefield in front of a capacity crowd of 71,728, the fourth-highest attendance in Grand Final history.
When is the 2027 Super League?
The 2027 season is expected to begin in February, with the full fixture list still to be announced. Leigh Leopards and Bradford Bulls will play in Las Vegas on 27 February 2027, and Magic Weekend returns to Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium on 1-2 May 2027, moving from July to the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The Grand Final will take place at Old Trafford on Saturday 2 October 2027.
Fourteen teams contested Super League XXXI in 2026, after the league expanded from twelve clubs, with Bradford Bulls, Toulouse Olympique and York Knights replacing Salford. Ahead of Super League XXXII, London Broncos, the 2026 RFL Championship winners, are expected to be fast-tracked into a fifteen-team league, although the move still needs to be ratified by the clubs.
Who are the favourites to win the 2027 Super League?
Champions Wakefield Trinity will be looking to become the first club to successfully defend the Super League title since Wigan Warriors in 2024.
Wigan topped the 2026 table, and Leeds Rhinos finished second, so both will expect to be involved again. Can Hull KR, the 2025 champions who finished sixth in 2026, bounce back? And could Warrington go one better after losing the Grand Final?

- In 2026, fourteen teams played each other home and away, plus one fixture at Magic Weekend, giving every team 27 matches.
- At the end of the regular season, the top six teams enter the play-offs. The top two go straight into the semi-finals, while 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th meet in the eliminators.
- The two semi-final winners meet in the Grand Final at Old Trafford.
- London Broncos' expected promotion would take Super League to fifteen teams in 2027, so the schedule is subject to change once the league confirms its fixtures.

Super League Past Winners & Champions List
Six teams have won the Super League since its inception in 1996: St Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Bradford Bulls, Hull KR and, most recently, Wakefield Trinity. Below are details of the last ten Super League champions, who they beat in the Grand Final, the final score and the League Leaders' Shield winners.
As you can see from below, finishing top of the table after the regular season isn't necessarily a good indication of the overall winner. Only 5 of the last 10 league leaders went on to win the Grand Final, with Wigan (2026), Catalans Dragons (2021), Wigan (2020), St Helens (2018) and Castleford Tigers (2017) all falling short.

Super League Odds Statistics: Win Rate by Odds Range
Super League Odds Statistics: Win Rate by Odds Range
Every set of decimal odds has an implied probability, which is the chance of winning that the price suggests. A team priced at 2.00 (evens), for example, is rated as a 50% chance. The chart below splits Super League matches from 2017 to 2026 into odds ranges and shows how often teams have actually won at those prices, so you can see where results have matched, beaten or fallen short of what the odds implied.
Short-priced favourites at 1.01 to 1.09 have won 91.46% of their matches, just under the 91.7% or more their odds implied. Six of the eight ranges from 1.10 to 1.89 also fell below their implied range, while teams priced between 2.00 and 2.99 won 39.47% of the time and those at 6.00 or longer won 9.21%. Past results are not a guide to future outcomes, but they show how much value there has been at each price.

Super League Favourites: Best Records When Priced as Favourites
Here are the most successful teams when priced as favourites in the Super League for each of the last five seasons (2022 to 2026), ranked by win rate. When is the 2027 RFL Championship?
The start date and structure of the 2027 Championship have not yet been confirmed, with the league's make-up beyond 2026 still to be decided.
2026 brought a big change, with the Championship and League One merging into a single second tier. It was planned as a 21-club league but ended up with 20 after Featherstone Rovers were removed, and clubs played 24 league games under a new 'pendulum' fixture system.
The season finished with a ten-team, four-week play-off and the Championship Grand Final on 4 October 2026.
Who are the favourites to win the 2027 RFL Championship?
If London Broncos are promoted, the Championship loses the dominant side of 2026, and the title race should be far more open. Doncaster, the beaten Grand Finalists, Newcastle Thunder, Oldham, Widnes Vikings and Barrow Raiders were among the leading sides in 2026.
Can Doncaster go one better in 2027, or will one of the chasing pack take the title?
