Wuhan Open 2026: Results

Chang Bingyu fulfilled the promise he has showed over the past couple of seasons when winning the Wuhan Open in fine style, defeating former World Champion Zhao Xintong 10-7 in the final.

Wuhan Open 2026: Introduction

The fourth renewal of the Wuhan Open takes place in Hubei Province in Central China from the 23rd to the 29th of August.

A pot of £825,000 is up for grabs and with the majority of the top thirty-two players likely to be in attendance we are likely to see another top-class event following on from this season's Shanghai Masters won by Judd Trump and the rejuvenated China Open, which was dominated by Mark Selby.

Viewers in the UK and Ireland can watch the action on HBO Max and TNT Sports.

Xiao Guodong became only the fourth player is snooker history to defend his maiden title last year when just outstaying Gary Wilson 10-9 in last year's final but he perhaps had a fair share of luck as, due to the vagaries of the draw, he only defeated one player from the top sixteen (Mark Williams).

Xiao had a much tougher time of it the year before when he saw off the likes of Kyren WIlson, Barry Hawkins and Shaun Murphy to lift the trophy.

The only other player to win the Wuhan Open is Judd Trump who defeated Ali Carter 10-7 in the final three years ago.

Who are the players who tend to produce their best performances in China? Our Form in China blog illustrates the players to focus on.

There were four multiple event winners in the last twelve months. Detailed as follows:

  • Xhao Zintong (4 events)
  • Mark Selby (3 events)
  • Wu Yize (2 events)
  • Judd Trump (2 events)

The seedings are a useful guide when considering a bet on any of the major snooker events. In the table above you can see that eighteen of the twenty tournaments were won by players ranked in the top twenty.

Perhaps the only real big shock of the season was the win of the forty-first ranked Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the World Open, who was winning only his second ranking event in a career that stretches back to 2009. Un-Nooh's only other ranking event victory came in the 2019 Shootout so it could be argued the World Open was his first meaningful tournament win.

Some other lowly ranked players made it to finals, such as Anthony McGill (58) in the British Open and Chang Bingyu (68) in the Scottish Open. The last named looks a player to follow  and could go one place better in an event this season.

If you have your eye on an outsider winning a big event this year one of the Home Nations tournaments are probably the most likely to provide a shock.

Wuhan Open 2025: Draw and Results

Xiao Guodong became one of the few players to retain a ranking event title when defeating Gary Wilson 10-9 in a closely fought final for the Wuhan Open.

Guodong had been 8-6 down and seemed to be struggling but won four of the last five frames to pick up this title once again. Guodong moves up six places in the world rankings to number eight as a result of this big win.

Despite an agonising defeat in the final frame, this was a welcome return to form for three-time ranking event winner Gary Wilson who had only managed one visit to a quarter-final since April 2024 prior to making the final in Wuhan. Wilson moves up two places in the world rankings to sixteen.

The qualifying rounds for the Wuhan Open were played in Leicester in June.

The 2025 version of the Wuhan Open is being held two months earlier than last season's which was held in October.

Wuhan Open Final 2024

Final Review

Xiao Guodong 10 Si Jiahui 7

Xiao Guodong finally fulfilled his dream of winning a World Snooker ranking event after seventeen years as a professional. The Final was a high scoring affair with five centuries recorded (2 from Xiao and 3 from Si Jiahui) but things got very nervy for the new champion when he reached 9-4 and only needed one frame for victory. Si Jiahui managed to peg the score back to 9-7 and the crows were beginning to wonder if Xiao would manage to get over the line. The thirty-five-year-old from Chonqing eventually took the title in the seventeenth frame 78 points to 16. Despite the long wait for his first title, Xiao still suggested he has hopes of one day becoming World Champion and if he can maintain this sort of form he would surely be a serious contender.
