- From 30 September, UK casino sites must offer gross deposit limits to every customer and reintroduce them where they'd previously been removed, under the second phase of the Gambling Commission's updated Remote Technical Standards.
- The rules also standardise how sites describe these tools: only a gross deposit limit can be called a "deposit limit", and it must be shown with at least equal prominence to any other financial limit offered.
- When every casino site uses the same term for the same tool, it's easier for players to compare protections and actually use them.
UK casino sites must now offer a specific type of deposit limit to every customer, it has emerged.
Feedback sessions with OLBG members showed deposit limits are one of the most actively used responsible gambling tools among UK players.
And from September 30th, the second phase of the Gambling Commission's updated deposit limit rules will come into force.
Every UK casino site must now offer gross deposit limits to customers, and reintroduce them where they'd previously been removed as an option.
The rules also tighten how sites can describe these limits.
Only a gross deposit limit can be called a "deposit limit" going forward. Other limit types need a different name.
Gross deposit limits must also be shown with at least equal prominence to any other financial limit on a site.
The change builds on the first phase of the Remote Technical Standards, which came into force in October 2025.
The Commission originally set a 30 June deadline for this second phase, then extended it by three months after feedback from operators about the technical work involved.
That extension period has now run out.
| Deposit limit rule | What it means from 30 September |

OLBG's Casino Content Manager David Coleman believes the naming and prominence rules matter more than they sound.
He said: "A deposit limit only works as a safety net if you can actually find it and trust what it's called.
"Before this, sites could use the word 'limit' quite loosely, and that made it harder to compare tools across different casino sites.
"From now on, if something's labelled a deposit limit, it means the same thing everywhere you play.
"That consistency is a small change on paper, but it's exactly the kind of detail that makes the regulated market worth using."
