Julianne Moore is way out in front of the Best Actress betting for the 99th Academy Awards at 4/7 for The Debut, a film absent entirely from the Best Picture race.

I break betting odds news as it happens, so you’re never left behind when the market moves or a top offer lands.

  • Julianne Moore leads the Best Actress market for the 99th Academy Awards at 4/7 for The Debut
  • Inde Navarrette is next best fancied at 7/2 (22.2%) for Obsession, with Sandra Hüller close behind at 7/1 (12.5%) for Rose.
  • The Social Reckoning continues its quiet run across categories, with Mikey Madison priced at 25/1 for Best Actress after also featuring in the Best Picture and Best Actor markets this week.

Moore Dominates A Field Without A Best Picture Tie

Following this week's Best Picture and Best Actor previews, bookmakers have completed the picture with their Best Actress market for the 99th Academy Awards, and it's Julianne Moore who sits streets ahead of the rest of the field.

Her performance in The Debut has her priced at a commanding 4/7, giving her by far the shortest price of any contender across the three acting and picture categories covered so far this week.

What makes Moore's position particularly striking is that The Debut doesn't feature anywhere in this week's Best Picture betting, where The Odyssey remains the clear leader at 8/11.

It's a similar pattern to what we saw with John Malkovich topping the Best Actor market for Wild Horse Nine despite that film sitting well back in the Best Picture race, and it's further evidence that a stand-out individual performance doesn't always need a dominant film behind it to catch the judges' attention.

William Hill now gives full odds on Best Actress, featuring some massive names and new stars.

Moore's 4/7 price gives her an implied 63.6% chance of winning Best Actress, with Inde Navarrette a distant second at 7/2 (22.2%) for Obsession.

Sandra Hüller sits third at 7/1 (12.5%) for Rose, with Renate Reinsve close behind at 8/1 (11.1%) for Fjord.

Anne Hathaway trails at 20/1 (4.8%) despite her connection to Best Picture favourite The Odyssey.

The Social Reckoning's Quiet Cross-Category Run

One of the more interesting threads running through this week's three markets is The Social Reckoning's steady, understated presence across all of them.

It sat as the outright longest price in the Best Picture race at 22/1, Jeremy Strong featured among the tied outsiders for Best Actor at 20/1, and now Mikey Madison joins that group in Best Actress at 25/1.

No single category has it fancied strongly, but a film picking up recognition across all three markets in the same week is still worth watching as the season develops.

Anne Hathaway's position tells a different story.

Being part of the Best Picture favourite hasn't translated into anything like the same level of confidence in the individual acting race, a reminder that these markets are ultimately judged on the strength of a specific performance rather than a film's overall awards-season momentum.

Expert View

What the expert says...
Julianne Moore at 4/7 is about as short as these markets get this early in the season, and performances that dominate a category quite like this one usually have good reason behind them. The one I'm watching closely across all three categories is The Social Reckoning; picking up recognition in Picture, Actor and Actress in the same week isn't nothing, even from these longer prices.
