- George Fouracres has emerged as the new name to beat in the Next Doctor Who betting at 4/5.
- The market comes amid reports the BBC has put Doctor Who's production out to competitive tender, with Line of Duty showrunner Jed Mercurio said to be bidding for the rights.
- Billie Piper and Aimee Lou Wood share second billing in the betting at 2/1, just ahead of Erin Doherty and Martin Freeman at 3/1.
George Fouracres Moves To The Top Of The Market
There's a brand-new name leading the way in the Next Doctor Who market, with SNL UK star George Fouracres moving ahead of the pack.
Doctor Who is in the news for reasons beyond the TARDIS, after reports emerged earlier this month that the show's production has been put out to tender.
Deadline reports that a big name has thrown their hat into the ring for the rights, with Line of Duty showrunner Jed Mercurio said to be spearheading a bid to produce the show after the BBC launched a competitive tender process.
Hat Trick Mercurio, the production company Mercurio runs with Hat Trick founder Jimmy Mulville, has reportedly put in a proposal with Mercurio attached as executive producer, alongside expected bids from BBC Studios, World Productions and STV Studios.
Next Doctor Who Odds
Next Doctor Who | Odds* | Implied Probability |
|---|---|---|
George Fouracres | 4/5 | 55.6% |
Billie Piper | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Aimee Lou Wood | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Erin Doherty | 3/1 | 25.0% |
Martin Freeman | 3/1 | 25.0% |
Matt Smith | 4/1 | 20.0% |
Tom Hiddleston | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Fouracres' move to 4/5 is a striking one given how little mainstream profile he's had until relatively recently, but his rise through the SNL UK ranks appears to have caught the attention of the betting experts in a big way.
His quirkiness in his performances on SNL could easily see him slot into the Doctor Who role and it genuinely looks like a great fit.
Billie Piper and Aimee Lou Wood share second favourite billing at 2/1, with Piper the last shown Doctor on TV after Ncuti Gatwa regenerated into Piper last time out.
Erin Doherty and Martin Freeman complete the leading group at 3/1 apiece, both established names with more than enough range to take on the role.

Rest Of The Market
Matt Smith drifts out to 4/1, an intriguing price for a former Doctor who could, in theory, return to the role given the show's long history of regeneration twists and unexpected casting choices.
Tom Hiddleston completes the list at 5/1, a price that reflects both his star power and the fact he's been linked with the role on and off for the best part of a decade without it ever materialising.
With the tender process still playing out behind the scenes, it's worth remembering that whoever wins the rights to produce the show could have a significant say in who ultimately takes on the role, so this market may well shift again once that picture becomes clearer.
Certain production companies may have their favourite actors for the role, and that will blow open the names whenever it is confirmed who gets the rights.
