I break betting odds news as it happens, so you’re never left behind when the market moves or a top offer lands.

  • Amazon MGM Studios and director Denis Villeneuve have reportedly assembled a six-man shortlist to replace Daniel Craig
  • Callum Turner sits close behind at 2/1, with Henry Cavill the clearest name from outside the reported shortlist still attracting significant support at 6/1.
  • Jack Barton, one of the six names on the shortlist, is not yet included in the betting market, while fellow shortlisted actor Paul Mescal has also yet to be priced.

Villeneuve's Shortlist Takes Shape

According to reports, Amazon MGM Studios and director Denis Villeneuve have put together a shortlist of six actors under consideration to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, and bookmakers have moved quickly to reflect the news with a reshuffled set of odds.

The shortlist reportedly comprises Jack Barton, Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal and Harris Dickinson, six names that between them cover a genuinely broad range of styles and career stages.

Casting a role this significant has always been treated as something of a national event in its own right, and a shortlist featuring this mix of established leading men and rising stars only adds to the intrigue over who Villeneuve ultimately has in mind.

Villeneuve's own track record with big-budget, tonally serious franchise filmmaking has been well documented in recent years, and it's easy to see why a shortlist assembled under his watch might lean toward actors capable of carrying that same sense of gravity.

Ladbrokes' full market has Jack Lowden as the clear favourite, but there is still plenty of time for that to change.

Barton And Mescal Yet To Be Priced

Despite being named among the six actors reportedly under consideration, Jack Barton is not currently included in the betting market at all, a notable absence given his inclusion on the shortlist itself.

Paul Mescal, another of the six reportedly shortlisted names, is similarly yet to be priced by bookmakers, leaving two of Villeneuve's reported picks without an entry in the current odds.

For now, though, it means the current odds reflect four of the six shortlisted names alongside several actors who haven't been publicly linked to the same reports but remain well established in the wider betting conversation.

The Odds: Lowden Leads The Way

With four of the six reportedly shortlisted names now included in the market, Jack Lowden has emerged as the new favourite ahead of a genuinely competitive field.

Next James BondOddsImplied Probability
Jack Lowden6/440.0%
Callum Turner2/133.3%
Henry Cavill6/114.3%
Jack O'Connell10/19.1%
Josh O'Connor10/19.1%
Tom Francis10/19.1%
Aaron Taylor-Johnson12/17.7%
Harris Dickinson12/17.7%
Jacob Elordi14/16.7%

Lowden's implied probability of 40.0% puts him narrowly ahead of Callum Turner at 33.3%, with the pair combining for the vast majority of the market's confidence between them.

Henry Cavill's 14.3% is the clearest indication that names outside the reported shortlist haven't been forgotten by punters, even with fresh reports pointing elsewhere.

Jack O'Connell, Josh O'Connor and Tom Francis are all tied at 10/1, each carrying an implied probability of 9.1%, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Harris Dickinson sit level at 12/1.

What the expert says...
Lowden and Turner being so far clear tells you the market's reacting to genuine reports rather than just speculation, that kind of gap doesn't usually appear from nowhere. Cavill staying this competitive despite not being part of the reported shortlist shows there's still a real appetite for him among punters though.
